Li PO in HB Cyclone?
Hi Guys,

Taken a short sabatical whilst I change jobs and get settled in, plan to be back with Dan at the Much More GP in June, I was wondering if there would be any advantage in replacing my tired race packs in the cyclone with LiPo, not sure how they would fit as the Cyclone is designed for 6 x side by side cells, we have settled on brushless motors now for low maintenance. anyone using LiPo and any suggestions? it would be cheaper to stick with NiMh by just buying 3-4 more packs but the IB4200 I last bought were rubbish to be blunt!

See y'all soon!

Best Regards to all.

Ian & Dan

ye i have been watching... i dont run lipos so not to much help..but appart from being abil to charge them a few days before you use them i dont think they are that much better but they give a more constant output throughout the race One crash and you have lost that advantage
For the cost of going lipo for the small advantage gained is it worth it if you are still going to end up on the grass or in the ropes?(my thoughts)
The cells i like to use are energ 4600 http://www.muchmoreracing.com/store/inde...ts_id=3513

i dont see why the lipos would not fit it but anyone running a cyclone and lipos provide some help please

also check the web forms

RE: Li PO in HB Cyclone?
Thanks Gareth,

Well I took the plunge on the basis of being first in maybe I can help others! I have bought 5 BRCA legal packs along with a balanced charger (my pro peak will charge LiPo but not balance) I also bought the weights to get the cyclone back up to the weight limit, topping this off with a Genius 120 esc and Velociti 3.5 motor, gearing will be guesswork for Stonehaven (6:1???) If it all arrives in time I'll be at Stonehaven next Sunday, failing that I'll try and get to the 7th June meeting just ahead of the Much More GP.
Best Regards

Ian

RE: Li PO in HB Cyclone?
Update...

Well first meeting over with no problems, running 7:1 gearing with a GM 120 esc and Novak 3.5 Velociti, esc barely warm and motor just warm, performance seemed identical to NiMh, next meeting 10.5t spec Velociti and gearing down to 5:1, checked the LiPo's at end of meeting and only 2000mAh used so room for even lower gearing!

What i'd like to know is if LiPos are legal to run at practices or only race, or at all? Thanks to any that reply.

RE: Li PO in HB Cyclone?
Lipos are legal but there are some safety issues which should be addressed - for example charge rates, using BRCA approved lipos, using charging sacs, voltage cut outs etc etc.

But yes LIPOs are legal to use at practice and actual races.

RE: Li PO in HB Cyclone?
Just a thought, have you joined the BRCA? The rule book explains the rules of what you can and cannot run for pro stock and modified TC classes (although I would suggest you leave modified alone as the majority run pro stock!). It also explains Lipo rules etc. If this is your first car, you may also not want to run the fastest car you can. Rather than 19 turn (brushed) or 10.5 turn (brushless), you may want to go 27 turn (brushed) or the brushless equivalent (14.5??).

I can tell you from experience, when you start off, you finish higher up the order by driving smoothly, concentrating on racing lines and not crashing. If you go for all and out speed, you will not be smooth, not take the right lines and will crash a lot - Ask me how I know!!!!
