well as some of you will know i attended my first race session today and really enjoyed myself (car could have done better) my drive shafts popped out a few times and in the end my car lost all drive half way through the final so that put an end to my day lol, thank you to every one who gave me tips and helped me get sorted out...
So as soon as i got home and told my gf all about it i have been online looking at new parts to sort this problem out... still have a load of questions and some of the answers i got today just threw up new ones lol... i hope the next time i am there i should have a bit more kit so i look like i know what i am doing even if im still lost... so i will see you then!!! |

RE: Now im hooked
Ok time for a list of questions...
Can I run a stock motor that is 20 turns (brushed)? What wheels/tyres would fit me E10? If I am running the 20 turn motor what would a 5000 battery be like compared to a 3000 that I have at the moment? I have at the moment a 22 tooth gear with a 65 tooth running in the car if I change them up to a 26 & 65 what sort of diffrance would that give me? I know the speed would go up but is this a large change or could I go further with out making it lose control? And finaly any one able to help me out modifiying my car around the westhill area or even at a club meet??? Cheers Wuzie |

(18-01-2010 03:06 PM)wuzie123 Wrote: Ok time for a list of questions... Stock motors are normally 19t but yes thats fine. To be honest the battery change you suggest wouldnt make a huge difference at this level, if the batteries you have give you duration for the race then they are fine, its more important that they are properly charged and peaked before you race. Gearing is a very subtle art, and again not desperatly important unless its miles out, it has to be a compromise between top speed and accelaration, when you gear up, the car will go faster on a long straight but will be slower out of the bends, you need to find out the cars internal gear ratio and there is then an equation to work out what gives you the ideal gearing for the nature of the track. (18-01-2010 03:06 PM)wuzie123 Wrote: Ok time for a list of questions... Did some checking and if your car is based on the sprint 2 then the internal ratio is 2.13... what you need is for the final drive ratio to be sonewhere round 6-7 as a basic guide you then divide the spur x the pinion and multiply bu the internal ratio.. so 65/22 x 2.13 = 6.3 So if i've got that right then you are spot on. If anything I might go down a pinion to 21 giving you 6.5 FDR Anyone see any mistake with that? G |

RE: Now im hooked
Um well looking at the instructions that come with the car there is a graph showing gear ratios and it says that at the moment I am running 7.48 and to get a ratio of around 6.5 i need a 25/26 tooth gear so looks like you have gone wrong some where lol ( hopes he's right )

(18-01-2010 07:38 PM)wuzie123 Wrote: Can I run a stock motor that is 20 turns (brushed)? DONE Hi Doug, Glad to hear you enjoyed your first meeting! We aren't too strict on motors in this instance, but if you haven't already bought it I'd be tempted to go for 19T stock motor as you can take these apart or even a 27T Stock motor if they still sell them. A lot of other motors are sealed cans, so can't be maintained very easily. Any 1/10th on-road wheels/tyres should fit as cars use a universal hex fitting. Me and Bruce are both running 26mm Gecko foams, and I think quite a few others are as well. Can be bought from http://www.microtechracing.com. I'm running 40 shore all round, a lot of people run slightly softer on the rear like 37. I wouldn't worry too much about gearing unless your wildly out, although its handy to have a few pinions spare around the gear ratio your aiming to run at. Not sure what you mean with your last question. One thing to remember, outright speed isn't everything, especially when your starting. All the time is made up on the corners at the end of it, most motors will power your car around the corner as quick as its capable of going around the corner anyway. Best to gradually build the speed up, that way less breakages and a better driver at the end of it. Like with everything else in life, practice makes perfect! ![]() Keiran |
