Hi, im doug from westhill i have been looking for a local club to come and race with as i am looking to get into rc cars properly now, i have had many cars over the years but all have been toyshop ones, so i am thinking about buying a "proper" car i am looking at the hpi 1/10th gt40 cant mind the full name of it but it is 4wd and lots of hop ups for it in the future, also looking at the flux line from hpi but that is a 1/8th so no use for indoor racing as it is a stadium truck unless there is a class that i could race in with yourselfs,

any help and info would be great cheers wuzie
My advise to you would be to go along to a race meeting before you decide on which car to buy, if your intention is to race at either Inverurie or Stonehaven or possibly both then seeing what everyone else runs and talking to some of the club members is the way to go.. They are a super nice bunch and very few of them bite.
I think there is a club round at Inverurie next weekend and the 4hour endurance is the weekend after, which is a load of fun.

Graeme
I think the gt40 you refer to is an hpi e10 with a special edition body. Believe it or not I have in the past bought 27 e10's (long story!) and assuming you get a good price it will be fine to get you started indoors at grcc.

Dan
yeah Dan thats the one i have been looking at, i am going to buy it new from http://www.modelsport.com, http://www.hpieurope.com/kit-info.php?pa...86&lang=en that is the full details of the car as it stands from hpi, is there anything that you would advise me to change with the car to run indoor i.e. motors, battries, tyres, wheels, or anything that i dont know about lol which will be most things.....

cheers doug
Hi Doug, If you are online and would buy 2nd hand:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HPI-E10-FORD-GT-1-...1e59d01f14

Check what it comes with and bear in mind you can get new with battery etc for £130 posted.

You should be ok racig it as is but some foams (type of tyre premouned on wheel) may be a good idea for more grip - but you may need to trim the wheel arches
yeah i have seen that one on ebay and i am watching it but sinice i am gettin a bonus from work soon i think i will treat myself to a new one,

next question is what do i need when i come to race the first time...

wuzie
Well a little update i have gone and bought myself a ford gt40 E10 from hpi so looks like i will be joining your selfs in the near future to have a race or two

So what would i need to buy before i race i know better tyres and the like but what about the other bits.....

cheers doug
Wecome to the GRCC forum Doug (or Wuzie)

Our next meeting is this coming Sunday so feel free to come along, even if your car is not ready yet and you just want a nosey/ask questions.

We are also trying out a new idea this season to help newbies when they start out, by having a "mentor" for the first couple of meetings. It simply means that you have a point of contact to answer any questions you may have. If you are anything like me, you'll have loads. Its optional, as some have raced in the past and are coming back to it, or may be quite happy on their own. If you are interested, feel free to ask for myself (Darren - Look for Joe 90 specs) or Derek when you arrive and we'll help get you setup and ready to go.

Another point worth mentioning is that it may be worth buying a few spares if you dont already have some. Wishbones and steering yokes are my favourites to break, but I'm sure there will be other racers with HPI spares should you be unlucky enough to break something the first time out.

Look forward to meeting you when you can make it.

PS. Be prepared to get obsessed with the hobby!
Darren that sounds great I think I will be there even if I don't race would be great to talk to some people that know what they are talking about... I am totaly new to the proper rc car circut and thought that it would be fun to buy myself a car for my 24th birthday ( from the girlfriend lol ) so a mentor would be great and I look forward to meeting you all...

Cheers Doug aka Wuzie
I'll be there but not racing I'm afraid as I'll have Olivia (3 months now) with me for her 1st taste of R/C! It didn't work with Sophie mind!
