Winners Team LaDomma

Sunday saw Grampian Radio Car Club proudly host their annual 4 hour endurace race with seven teams fighting it out for the win. Two teams once again traveled all the way down from Shetland to compete in the event. DundeeRCC were also back again to challenge the other teams.
After some technical issues with the computer at the start, the race had to be cut down to 3hrs 45mins but that didn't make the racing any less stressful for the competing drivers. Team LaDomma took an early lead when Shetland A hit a few problems at the start costing them valuable time. In the opening stints DundeeRCC were in the mix with the top 3 and appyling serious pressure, holding onto second place for a while until Shetland A got into their rythm.
As the race progressed it became a battle between Team LaDomma and Shetland A for the victory, both teams had a few issues during the race making it a very tense and exciting battle with the gap constantly changing. At one point Shetland A got the gap down to 12laps and any slip up from the dommas was going to put them well within striking distance. There were close battles throughout the field, with positions changing all the time.
In the end though Team LaDomma managed to hold out for a second year and take the victory. Only 16laps behind after 3hrs 45mins were Shetland A and rounding up the podium positions were DundeeRCC. In 4th were The Hillbillies, 5th with a worrying lap count (666, is this a sign?) The Brown Flumps, 6th Shetland B and in 7th the team with 3 drivers & 6 cars Cleavland Steamers.
I hope everyone enjoyed the race, I felt the driving standards were pretty good considering the wide variation of abilties and age of drivers on the track at any time. Hope to see you all back next year and maybe a fresh team or two from other clubs. For next year I'm going to try and see if I can work something out with the sports centre to hire the hall from 11am, giving us plenty of time and allowing for a decent timed practice session before the race. As always I'm open for comments and suggestions for next years race.
Last of all a big thanks to Phil for running race control, without him I probably wouldn't have been able to race. Also to SDRCC for lending us their hand out transponders to keep the event interesting! Pitstops wouldn't be nearly as fun with PTs.
